Escort Meaning Explained: Who Escorts Are and What They Do

Put simply, the escort meaning is a paid escort: usually a woman whose time and company you book, for a meal, a night out, a hotel visit or a journey. The word itself grew from the idea of going along with someone.

Here is the escort meaning in a sentence: an escort is a person whose time and companionship you pay for. Clients book her for a meal, a hotel evening, a social event or a journey, and the fee is for the hours she gives, not for any set activity. Women make up most escorts, but male and trans escorts work as well.

That covers the definition. Anyone typing “what is an escort” into a search bar tends to want more than that: how a booking really runs, what separates an agency from an independent, and what the law says. We take each in turn below, in plain terms.

Escort meaning: the origin of the word

English borrowed “escort” from the French escorte, and the French took it from the Italian scorta, meaning a guard or a person who goes along with you. The ordinary sense is still with us: a police escort, an escort for a ship, a waiter who escorts you across the restaurant. The companionship sense came out of that same root, someone who goes with another person to a dinner, a party or a hotel.

That is why a search for “whats an escort” almost always means this second sense: a professional escort paid for her time.

What is a female escort?

A female escort is someone who provides paid companionship to adult clients. Her hours are her own, she picks the bookings she takes, and she decides where her limits lie. Some ladies enjoy calm evenings indoors; others would rather be taken somewhere good to eat. They differ in character as much as anybody does, and that is exactly why reading profiles is worthwhile.

Pleasure of London has around 110 ladies, Asian, Indian and international, most of them based in central and west London. See every one on the escorts page, or browse by background, such as our Indian escorts in London. All are aged 18 or over, and each has had photo ID checked in private; we never publish it.

What does an escort do?

That comes down to the kind of booking the client makes. The common options are:

  • Incall: you go to her private apartment, in places like Earl’s Court, Bayswater or Marylebone.
  • Outcall and hotel visits: she travels to you. Hotel outcalls are the booking we arrange most often, and our page on booking an escort to a London hotel sets out how they run.
  • Dinner dates: roughly three hours, beginning with a meal out.
  • Overnights: around eight hours in each other’s company. Our guide to dinners and overnight bookings covers both.
  • Travel companionship: she comes with you on a trip, planned well ahead.
  • Duos: two ladies at once, and only in pairings both have agreed. Browse our duo escorts.

Inside a booking, the feel could be a warm GFE, or girlfriend experience, a massage, a chat over wine or just a pleasant evening together. Each profile notes the lady’s preferences in shorthand, and our glossary of escort terms explains what it all means.

The key thing is what the fee buys: her time. Whatever else takes place is private between two consenting adults, and she may refuse anything at all.

Agency escorts vs independent escorts

An independent escort handles it all on her own: the adverts, the phone, the diary and the vetting of clients. Some people prefer to deal with just one person. The downside is that it falls to you to decide whether the pictures are real and who is actually on the other end.

An escort agency stands in the middle. It shows the profiles, answers enquiries and sets up the booking, which leaves the escort free to focus on the client instead of paperwork. A good agency does the checking too. Every escort at Pleasure of London has been met face to face, and her photos have been compared with the real her. Should a different lady turn up from the one on the page, you pay nothing.

This counts for more than you might think. Fake pictures and deposit scams are widespread online, and our page on spotting fake profiles and escort scams lists the warning signs.

What an escort is not

Nobody gets to give an escort orders. She is self-employed and an adult, and she chooses who she meets, where and for how many hours she works, and she may take a break or stop at any time. No one works with us under pressure or anyone’s control, and every concern brought to us is acted on.

An escort agency, likewise, sells nothing but time. Our role is to connect clients with escorts and set up each booking. What two adults decide to do privately is their own affair, and the escort has the final say.

How booking an escort works

  1. Pick a lady, or let the concierge suggest one to suit your area, timing and taste.
  2. Ring +44 20 7846 3480, message on WhatsApp at +44 7502 952167, or go to our booking page.
  3. Let us know which lady, the area or hotel, the time and the length of the booking.
  4. We check she is available and confirm, normally inside 15 minutes.
  5. Pay her when the booking begins, normally in cash. We charge no booking fee.

As a guide, an hour of incall begins at £200, most sit at about £300, and an hour of outcall is normally £300 to £350. For the fuller picture, see our London escort price guide, and our step-by-step booking guide goes through each stage.

In England and Wales it is legal to pay an adult for her time and companionship, and when consenting adults privately exchange sexual services for money, that is not in themselves against the law. Plenty of related acts are offences, however, such as soliciting in a public place, kerb crawling, running a brothel or keeping control of another person’s sex work for gain.

Since 2010, paying for sexual services from someone who has been subjected to force, threats or deception has also counted as a strict liability offence. Ignorance is not a defence, which is another good reason to use an agency that checks its escorts with care. Paying for sex became illegal in Northern Ireland in 2015, and Scotland has separate laws of its own. Treat this as general information rather than legal advice; our guide on whether escorting is legal in the UK goes further.

A short summary

An escort is an escort you pay. You book her time, whether an hour, an evening or a whole night, and anything you share past that stays private between adults. To see who is free to meet you tonight, take a look at ladies available today.

Questions

She spends the agreed time with the client, either at his hotel or home (outcall) or at her apartment (incall). It could be drinks and conversation, a dinner out or a quiet evening in. The fee pays for her time and companionship.

Not quite. An escort is booked for her time and company, which often includes dinners, events or trips. What two consenting adults choose privately is their business, but the booking itself pays for her time.
